The form of the BT (Base Title) command is one of the following:
BT table = labels,
BT variable = labels,
BT = labels,
The BT command assigns text to be used to describe the base of a table. The first two forms above assign text to a variable or table by name; in the third form, the text is assigned to the last (immediately prior) variable or table defined.
BT texts are only used if assigned; you do not have to assign a BT to every table. A warning appears if a BT is assigned to a suppress heading table, where it will not be used.
If a BT text is assigned to an item which already has a BT assigned to it, the new text replaces the old one and a warning message appears.
BT texts appear at the top of the table, immediately after the VT, HT and IT texts, whichever of these are present.
The BT text is preceded when printed by the text assigned to special BTP .
Format IBH (Indentation Before Heading) specifies the number of spaces to be inserted before each line of heading including the BT text.
The BT for a table may be generated automatically from FL labels when the FILTER command is used.
Format PBT (Print Base Titles) controls whether the BT is printed.
Format BTR (Base Title as total Row) specifies that the BT text should be used in place of special %PTR for the total row.
Examples of BT commands:
ds $all=$33/2-7,
bt='All Respondents',
bt $why='All who did',
bt #1a='Everyone else',
bt #35=#34,
