The form of the VT command is one of the following:
VT variable = labels,
VT table = labels,
VT = labels,
The VT command assigns text used to describe the side of a table. The first two forms assign text to a variable or table by name; the third assigns text to the last table or variable defined.
Every table (except suppress heading +T tables or F=CON) must have a VT or an IT (Identifier Title) assigned to it, although not necessarily both. A warning appears if a VT is assigned to a suppress heading (F=CON) table where it will not be used.
If a VT text is assigned to a table or variable which already has a VT assigned to it, the new text replaces the old one and a warning message appears. Only the last assigned text will be used.
VT texts appear after IT (Identifier Title) texts at the top of the table.
The text is always preceded by the special %VTP, see chapter on special texts.
Format IBH (Indentation Before Heading) specifies the number of spaces to be inserted before each line of VT text. F=NPVT (No Print Vertical Title) can be used to suppress the printing of the VT.
Examples of VT commands:
vt $cat='q.14 how often do you feed your cat',
vt #377 = #376,
vt = 'This describes the row variable',
