Data locations (character data)

Within CL the information from the records is held in data locations. A data location is referred to by preceding it with a dollar sign. The range of valid data locations for character data is $1 to $350000 inclusive. If only 2000 locations are allocated on the CARD CHARACTERS command then the largest acceptable location number is $2000.

The way data is stored in the data file will depend on whether the file name extension is .uni, see Character data for more information.
