Column numbers are also referred to as "data locations".
3 or 4 digit numbers preceded by a dollar sign are used when referring to data locations in binary data. For example, $204 and $3415 refer to card 2 column 4, and card 34 column 15, respectively.
Each buffer normally contains 80 data locations. For example buffer 3 contains data locations $301-380 inclusive and buffer 20 contains data locations $2001-2080 inclusive.
