In the Compile Step the CL script is expanded (see the chapter on the pre-processor ) and checked for valid syntax.

This step generates a LISTING file, in which the CL script is listed with any error and warning messages.

If TIDY is not used then two work files are produced, the .ICF containing the executable code and the .ILF containing the text defined.
