Quantity weighting occurs when a respondent's answers are weighted according to some quantity in the data itself, for example the number of typewriters possessed. Typically each respondent may use several quantity weights at different times in a CL script, and the current weight is pointed to by SELECT WQ.
Different variables, and the number 1 (meaning no quantity weight) can be assigned using the SELECT WQ command. This command is non-executable, and specifies that for all T (tabulate) commands following down to the next SELECT WQ command, the variable specified contains the quantity weight. The variable can be redefined as often as necessary.
The use of the SELECT WQ command can be overridden by specifying a weight on a T (tabulate) command. The presence of a weight on a T (tabulate) command signifies that this is the quantity weight for this table definition only; after this table definition WQ will again apply.
Quantity weighting is used on the whole table if OLDWQ is used.
Examples:
select wq $howmany,
select wq 1,
