Data introduction

This section describes how the answers given by respondents are stored in a data file.

IMPORTANT: if you have collected data for the project you must not change some parts of the project, see Changing a project with data.

The raw data structure set in Project global settings determines which type of data file will be used.

The terms "data" and "raw data" refer to the same information or file.

IMPORTANT: a fixed format data file is no use on its own.  The data in it is only accessible when you have a matching project file with entries that describe where, and how, the answers are stored (metadata).  This will usually be the same project that was used to collect the data.
