Open XML file

OpenXML is a layout specification for files containing spreadsheet and other types of data.  For use with Companion it will usually have the extension .xlsx.

The layout of these files is based on an open standard which, in theory at least, can be read by programs from different suppliers.

These spreadsheet files can be created and accessed with Microsoft Excel.

OpenXML data files

Spreadsheet data can be used as a data file.  OpenXML data files must have:

One worksheet - only the first worksheet found will be used

A header row - this gives the entry names

A "Serial" column - this list the serial numbers and should be the first column

Empty rows and columns will be ignored.

Only entries with data locations are stored in the data file.

Any stored filters and variables will be recalculated whenever the file is opened.

IMPORTANT: Only data in QPSMR portable format will be accepted, see CSV file for details.  Use Data merge to convert other spreadsheet data.

OpenXML reports

Various reports can be output as OpenXML files.

Spreadsheet reports are produced as .xlsx files which will be opened by the default spreadsheet program (usually Excel).

You can set a particular program in [Tools] [Options] to view reports whenever an OpenXML spreadsheet report is produced.
