These files comply with a published standard for the transfer of Market Research data and metadata from one program to another. For full details see triple-s.org.
This program uses the newer XML standard for triple-s files. There are two files for any data set, the ASC data file and the XML metadata file. These two files are a pair and neither is much use without the other.
A triple-s metadata file can be imported by loading the XML file into an empty project. See Starting a project with triple-s XML for more information.
The project can also be exported to a triple-s metadata file, from the Main window [File] menu, see Project export for more details.
A fixed format triple-s data file does not normally need to be altered in any way. It is a fixed format ASCII (ASC) file and can be used directly as a raw data file, see Data file for details of ASC files.
A project can be set up to use a data file that is triple-s compliant. There is no need to export the data from such a project, the data file can be sent untouched with the exported metadata. To be compliant the project must:
•Use one long record for each questionnaire
•Use character (not binary) raw data storage
•Use new style for all single-coded questions
When a CSV triple-s file is imported the data file needs converting because it is not in a compatible format. You will be asked to open the data file (which may not have a .CSV extension) and you need to save this to a new CSV style data file for use with the Companion.
CSV data files are used because they are often a lot smaller than fixed format files.
This is an XML file that contains details about the entries. It may have an extension of .sss instead of .xml.
Some systems use response code 0 for a missing response. There is an import (zero=reject) that treats code="0" as a reject category and makes a supplemental reject response for the text.
