Convert fixed data

From the main window menu use [Answers] [Convert fixed format data file].

The top shows the encoding used as the Locale (default) for the PC.

IMPORTANT: This will only work if any areas of the data that contain text are set as character questions and the overall data record length is set.

Open data file

Use this button to open the fixed format data file to be converted.

This will show the encoding used by this file.

Choose type of file to be converted and saved

Use one of the radio buttons to choose the type of encoding and storage for the converted file.

Save new data file

Use this button to create the new converted data file.

You are asked for the name to give the new file.

Note that the new file should use the extension .asc or .uni.

Save and view new data file

This will create the new file and then open it with Data View so that you can see that the conversion has worked as expected.
