From the main window menu use [Answers] [Get combinations in data from multi].
You will be asked for the name of the data file to scan.
You then choose the multi-coded question or variable to scan in the data file to find all the combinations of responses found.
A new multi-coded variable is created which contains all the response combinations. You can choose the name for the variable created.
Combinations of responses in the selected entry that are not present in the data are not included in the variable.
Only combinations found in the data are used.
You can select whether responses in the variable show:
•Or responses (any of them, TURF reach only)
•Or responses (any of them, TURF reach and frequency)
•And responses (all of them, and any others)
You can choose the number of responses (minimum and maximum) that are included in each combination. For TURF that will not normally be more than a maximum of 3.
All three will produce a main variable which tests for all the combinations found in the data file selected.
The "Or" options will show records that are in any of the responses in the combination. This shows the "reach" for a TURF analysis.
The "And" option will only show records that are in all of the responses in the combination.
The second "Or" option will also create variables for every response in the original entry that show whether this combination includes this response. These can be used as columns on a table which are then added together or overlaid to give the "frequency" for each combination.
IMPORTANT: In all cases the records included in the main variable may have other responses that are not in the combination responses for this row. So if a record contains responses for products A, B, and C the following combinations will be created and this record will be in all 7:
A
B
C
AB
AC
BC
ABC
A second record with products B, C, and G will also be in:
B
C
BC
plus
G
BG
CG
BCG
If the variable is restricted to only 2 (min 2, max 2) then these two records would cause the creation of only these responses:
AB
AC
BC
BG
CG
