Input paper mode

Companion

This mode is used for entering data from paper questionnaires or other paper documents.  See Input data introduction for other modes.

Use the * (multiply) key to leave the question unanswered (blank).

The Return or Enter key will take you to the next question.

The display during data entry varies depending on the type of question:

Questions with response lists - single-coded

The quickest way to enter data is to type the response key (usually 1-4 digits) alongside the correct response.  As soon as a valid response key has been entered in full the program will move on to the next question.

You can also use the mouse to select a response.  You will then need to use the Next or Continue button or the Return/Enter key to move to another question.

Questions with response lists - multi-coded

The quickest way to enter data is to type the response keys (usually 1-4 digits) alongside the correct response.  As soon as valid response keys have been entered in full the program will move on to the next question:

If there is only one answer you only need to enter the response key as for a single-coded question.

If there is more than one answer you will need to use the "/" (divide or forward slash) key before and after you type all the response keys in full.  You can use the Enter key instead of the "/" at the end.

For a previously answered question you can precede a response key with + (plus) or - (minus) to add or remove a selected response.

You can use the mouse to select or deselect responses.  You will then need to use the Next or Continue button or the Return/Enter key to move to another question.
