From the Main window menu [Raw] [CSV file view] is used to handle raw spreadsheet files, see User Guide, CSV file introduction.
You can also view spreadsheet data on the clipboard (copied from a CSV file or a spreadsheet program) with the Main window menu [Raw] [Clipboard spreadsheet view].
This window can also be used to view:
•A Microsoft Excel worksheet; if there is more than one worksheet in the file opened you select which worksheet to view
•A UTF-16 CSV file that uses a tab character as the column separator
•A simple XML file; if there is more than one level of data in the file opened you can select which table to view
This window has a menu with some shortcut keys and a status bar.
This window enables you to view and edit a CSV file in its raw format, see Files, CSV files. You can alter the treatment of the file and reread it with Raw CSV treatment.
•The body of the window contains a data grid view of the opened file contents and can be altered as follows:
oEvery cell is treated as character data and can be over-typed with new contents
oRows can be deleted and new lines can be added at the end
oThe column headers can be changed with Rename columns
oThe data can be sorted on individual columns using a character sort
oThe whole data as viewed can be copied to the clipboard or opened (extracted) in a new Raw CSV window
•You can extract part of the file with Data extract which also allows the data to be:
oFiltered on a column containing a particular value
oSorted on one column using a mixed sort
oSelected columns can be chosen
oDuplicate lines can be removed
Extracted data is opened in a new Raw CSV window and can be further extracted if necessary. For example, to sort on two columns, sort on the second column, extract to a new window, then sort on the first.
