The different types of table are described in the Tables overview and are created using Tables setup.
Simple standard tables can also be produced using the Data drill down window.
A standard table is a cross tabulation which has the following attributes:
Every table has a unique name unless it is overlaid on the previous table in which case it uses the same name as the table it is added to.
Table names are usually numbers and there is a renumber facility to use if tables have been added or deleted.
You can ask for this table to overlaid (added to the previous table).
Normally the table title consists of a description of the rows, columns and filter (if any).
This text can be added as an extra description of the table.
This text can be added to appear at the bottom of the table.
A table will usually have an entry (single-coded or multi-coded) as the columns.
The headings for the columns will be taken from the responses texts.
Total columns are normally added on the left but can be suppressed by turning off formats UNC and PTC.
The description of the columns in the table title is normally the entry text but this can be overwritten with new text.
Any filters applied to the column entry can be also applied to the table.
Single columns can be incremented separately to make a banked table.
A table will usually have an entry as the rows.
The headings for the rows will be taken from the responses texts.
Total rows are normally added on the left but can be suppressed by turning off formats UNR and PTR.
The description of the rows in the table title is normally the entry text but this can be overwritten with new text.
Any filters applied to the row entry will normally also be applied to the table.
If a figure (integer or float) entry is used as the rows you can request stats only in which case only the mean (average) and associated statistics will be calculated and shown.
If a figure or text (character) entry is used as the rows the user must set the maximum unique responses that are expected. A warning will appear if this number is exceeded when producing the tables.
In addition to the filters applied because the row or columns entries were filtered, you can add a further filter to be applied.
The text describing the filter in the table title will be generated automatically but can be overwritten.
These control many aspects of the table produced including totals, decimal places, statistics required and so.
A quantity weight can be applied which will add this quantity from the record instead of 1 or the respondent weight (if used).
If respondent weighting is used (set globally) then the two weights will be multiplied together for each record.
The rows can be shown immediately below the previous table using format CON so that it looks like part of the same table.
