Telin only
This dialog appears when the [Failure] button is used from theTelin retrieved serial dialog because the interview cannot proceed.
It shows the number of times this serial number has been tried and the interviewer selects the reason for the failure from the list shown. For example, the line might be engaged or the interviewer may have reached an answering machine.
Once the interviewer has selected a reason, they then choose an action using the following buttons:
•[Leave as sample]
•[Appointment]
•[Dead (no)]
The interviewer can also use:
•[History]
Leave as sample is available when a sample record has been retrieved and it will return the record to the sample data file as a "live" record, so the respondent may be presented again at a later date.
Appointment is used to make call-back selections from the "Appointment" dialog. This button should only be used for "real" appointments. If there is no specific call back time then use "Leave as sample" if it is available.
Dead is used when the interviewer is sure that the respondent should not be contacted again. The record remains in the sample data file, marked as "dead" and will not be presented again.
History is used to get more details about this serial number.
