Labels (text for tables)

Texts to appear in tables are called labels. There are various kinds of labels - title labels, stub labels, banner labels, filter labels and special labels.

Leading and trailing blanks are ignored unless F=PBL (Preserve Blanks).

Different label controls are allowed with the different kinds of label. See Label controls .

Text can be assigned to tables either directly or indirectly.

An individual label should not contain more than 20 output lines and each output line cannot exceed 255 characters (including any ` (grave) characters).

Indirect assignment is usually used and the text is obtained from the variables used as the stub and banner on the table. Indirect assignment is made by CL at the end of the stage in which the table is first defined.

Direct assignment is when the text is attached to the table itself.
